well it’s been a LONG TIME between blogs.
I just never seem to get around to it.
Lately I really feel like I’m getting tired of social media & the negativity that can surround it. When I think about it, I’ve been actively using social media as a business / connecting platform almost everyday since I started my business in 2015’, perhaps it’s time to try some other ideas. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this. So I thought I’d try something different and just share a handful of recently edited images. I tend to edit a lot of images (particularly lately) that never see social media or my website so I figured, well why not put a few here & tell you a little about each one. So here goes folks.
Bow Lake Lodge - Canadian Rockies - fall 2018’
The Icefields Parkway - the main road through the Canadian Rockies & I rate the view & drive as one of the top 2 I’ve ever traveled along with the drive into Milford Sound in New Zealand.
A bull elk who was chasing some ladies around during the Rut season of fall 2019’ in the absolutely beautiful Yellowstone National Park
A cool close up of some very unique looking rock formations not far from my home in the Eurobodalla region of NSW. This image required some patience in setting up the tripod & refining the composition with my 100-400mm lens.
A very memorable morning, when I look back on this year I feel like we were actually pretty lucky to get a month in New Zealand in the middle of winter with almost no tourists around & even luckier to experience a couple of days of Hoar Frost in the Mackenzie region, this was just a really fun & enjoyable morning. This image composition required getting wet feet but was well worth it.
This place is called Tomakin Cove & has become a frequently visited spot locally to my new home where we often take an evening walk with the pup, these sandstone rock fingers as I call them are really nice & this evening was a stunner of a sunset with the sky on fire in all directions, this one was actually taken looking away from the colourful sky as I preferred the softer more even light on offer.
An ultra long exposure taken at a place called Childers Cove on the Great Ocean Road during a road trip we did in February this year. This image just goes to show you can take good landscapes in the middle of the day. I chose to desaturate most of the colours in this image to keep it looking simple.
One of my all time favourite photo locations in the world is this series of ponds way up a back country valley in New Zealand. I regularly take workshop clients to this area & they always get amazing photos. This was taken whilst guiding my only New Zealand Workshop this year.. I really like the crunchy ice on the pond in the foreground & the bluish grey feel to the photo.
This one was taken at the famous Moeraki Boulders on the east coast of New Zealand this winter, I’ve visited this place many times & never managed to get very good weather or photography conditions, this morning was an absolute cracker & everything came together for some perfect conditions. Upon reflection, if I’m being honest with myself, I got a little overwhelmed & didn’t handle the conditions as best as I feel I could of. Nevertheless it was still most enjoyable.
Taken from high up in the alps right on the border of Slovenia & Austria back in the winter (our summer) of 2018’. This is a zoomed in shot with a 70-200 at 200mm of a little farm owned by a beekeeper in the alps.
I don’t think the edit on this photo is finished yet, but I figured I’d show you anyways. This is a foggy scene of some bushfire damaged snow gums in the snowy mountains of Australia during a road trip in February 2021’, as it was summer its very uncommon to get foggy conditions at that time of the year so we were lucky.
A four image landscape panorama taken at one of my all time favourite places, this is Wharariki Beach in New Zealand & I wanted to portray a really different view of this famous beach this particular morning. I like this image.
A handsome looking yellow eyed penguin from New Zealand’s east coast this winter. I’ve wanted to get some photos of these penguins for many years & failed on many attempts. This particular evening we stumbled across two tired penguins resting after just returning from fishing at sea. We were very excited to see them & it was a real highlight for me. The penguins are critically endangered & there is only a couple of colonies of them left.
A 12 image panorama taken with my 100-400mm lens this winter one evening whilst we were on my only New Zealand Workshop for the year. It was a great bunch of people & we had a lot of fun. This is the beautiful Mount Cook with the glacial fed Tasman River in the foreground.
This is a cropped vertical image taken with a 70-200mm lens in the winter of 2018’ whilst guiding some private clients in New Zealand. I really like the toi-toi bush anchoring the middle of the scene & the majestic mountain up the back gently reflecting in Lake Kirkpatrick.
This place is a very well known one bit a very different view of it here. It’s the Tessellated Pavement on the Tasman Peninsula in Tasmania Australia, this image was taken just after some rain cleared during one of my workshops in March this year. I like the shutter speed on the cascading water & the subtle glow of the rising sun.
